I am an applied virologist with expertise in viruses of bacteria, their ecology, and interactions between viruses and bacteria. My research focuses are ecological studies of plant-associated bacteria, soil ammonia-oxidizing bacteria their bacteriophages and bacteriocins. My research is designed to improve scientific knowledge and understanding of interactions between bacteriophages, bacteria and the environment.

Analytical tools that I use in my research include classical methods of virology (e.g., isolation, cultivation, purification bacteria, bacteriophages and bacteriocins), molecular-biological and molecular-genetic methods. I also have experience with bacteriophages of human pathogenic microorganisms such as Helicobacter pylori. In addition, I use flow cytometry to assess the immune response to viral infection in a mouse model. I have extensive experience teaching courses and supervising undergraduates.

In 2016 I was awarded an Annual prize of President’s of Ukraine for Young Scientists for research entitled “Bacteriophages of phytopathogenic and industrially valuable enterobacteria of the peculiarities of virus-cell interactivity, genomics and specificity of morphogenesis”.

In 2009 I was awarded a Verchovna Rada Annual Prize for the most talented Ukrainian young scientists in the field of fundamental and applied research for a project entitled “Molecular genetics of autonomous elements of Erwinia carotovora and perspectives of their use in biotechnology”.
